MADHEPURA: Resentment prevailed among a section of people here on Tuesday following the death of an undertrial prisoner admitted to Madhepura sadar hospital for treatment on Monday.
The prisoner, Rajendra Sahani (43), hailing from Gamail village under Behariganj police station in the district, was arrested reportedly for consuming liquor and landed in Madhepura jail three days back.
After falling ill, he was admitted to a hospital, where he died during treatment on Monday .
The incident triggered resentment among a section of people, who kept the body on the main road in front of the sadar hospital blocking vehicular traffic for hours. People were shouting slogans against the erring excise cops demanding action against them. Kin of the victim alleged that he was badly beaten up and tortured in custody as well as inside the jail.
The blockade was later lifted after interference of Madhepura SDPO
